*****JANUARY MEETING WAS WONDERFUL – PICTURE BOOKS
Jim Williams came by and talked to us about taking photos to use in picture books. He also brought some of his personal picture books from his trips to Europe which were not only interesting but beautiful shots. Several of our members brought a photo and read the story they wrote to go with the photo.
Picture books are wonderful to put family photos from the past to pass down from generation to generation. If you are writing a memoir you will cerainly want to use pictures. Picture books make nice gifts for our children when they are grown by taking their baby pictures and coming up through all their ages retelling about the times with the pictures.

NOVEMBER'S GROUP MEETING WAS GREAT.
Thank all of you for participating in the writing and interaction today. It's wonderful to see the words as we write them on the paper and so enjoyable when we read them to each other. As always we enjoyed each other's comfort and support in our writing endeavors. We all enjoyed being creative. One of the important things today, we made our list for food for the December party.

Halloween Senses
by
Annette Mastron
Happy Halloween!?! A tribute today to our sweet friends atSouthern Writer Magazine, who blog daily giving juicy sweet candies to all writers and writers in progress. You only need to visit “Sweet T” to discover ideas to help further our craft.
Tonight as costumed trick or treaters approach your door, prior to grabbing the candy bowl and opening your door turn on your mental storage button, imagine who will be at your door. Could it be the character for your next story or chapter? This night as you light candles in your pumpkins, imagine the setting for your next writing idea.
Mentally, capture the spell of the night that only comes once a year. This year grab the opportunity to use Halloween to influence your characters you create with the magic of this night. Keep a notepad by your side tonight to record your impressions or better yet take some pictures to remind you of all you can see, hear, taste, and smell. With your notes in hand it will be easier to recall when you have time in the dead of winter to write a story with Halloween as a backdrop.
The day after Halloween, may your head be full of images of tonight, the shape of the moon, the crunch of the fallen leaves, the smell of a neighbor’s fire, or decorated neighborhoods. Visions of the costumed and masked children, their parents standing huddled at the sidewalk-–they all have their own story. Yummy smell of chili on the stove for a quick supper, the ding of the microwave when hot chocolate is ready to warm up your ghosts and goblins as their candy/loot is inspected and divided up in separate bowls for future consumption.
These are the moments in everyday life that everyone identifies with and can easily be inserted in any story or book helping your reader identify with your characters and you, the writer. There is nothing to be afraid of, just write what you see and sweet treats await.

Our next CCW meeting is Thursday, October 6th
In August we all set writing goals we'd like to accomplish by the end of the year. It could be as simple as writing your first blogpost, or starting your first book. Come prepared to hear more success stories (and to tell us yours!), along with the usual exercises, good advice and quality fellowship. See you on the 6th at 11!
Thursday, August 4th was a great meeting. Lots of fun, laughter and learning.
We worked on goals in our meeting today. What we wanted to accomplish by the end of November. Everyone had at least one primary goal with at least two to three to add when the first was accomplished.
It is always a delight to be in a meeting with our group, we truly enjoy each others company and support each other in our writing.
Thank you all for a truly blessed meeting. Don't forget...will see you in September, to hear how you are coming on your goals!

Every meeting is something different!
We've had some great CCW meetings recently, including guest speakers like Maxine Hunter, Lifestyle Editor for The Germantown News. At another meeting Sharen Rooks gave us valuable tips on getting free publicity. George Lucas provided wisdom from his bestseller The One Minute Negotiator, and Chris Myers shared his insights into self-publishing. We appreciate all of these talented people taking the time to visit with us.
The first Thursday of each month we invite all writers and guests to be with us from 11 to 1 for writing exercises and good, solid inspiration. And don't forgot to stop by the Common Cup on your way in for the best java around!

The native Memphian also appeared the day prior on WREG-TV's Live at 9. She is a great example of marketing, having aligned her appearance with a class reunion. Her many followers made her book signing standing room only. Congratulations Jonna, and good luck with your latest book! Read a sample here.

CCW Welcomed Myers in March
At our March meeting of CCWriters, we enjoyed special guest Christopher Myers, author of Taylor's Way. As the father of a special needs child, Christopher has discovered first-hand the challenges and blessings that come with that demanding responsibility.
